Food Container Design Project
SH2J collaborated with CJ on the YagGochujang container design project.
CJ’s Yaggochujang packaging harmoniously combines Korea’s traditional fermentation heritage with modern food packaging technology, featuring a silhouette inspired by the jangdokdae, Korea’s traditional earthenware jar, and a transparent plastic material.
The jangdokdae has long been used in Korean culture to store fermented foods like gochujang, doenjang, and soy sauce, symbolizing the heart of Korean culinary tradition. CJ reinterpreted this iconic form in a modern way, visually expressing the product’s authenticity and care. The use of transparent plastic reveals the deep red color and texture of the contents, enhancing trust in freshness and quality. At the same time, the material ensures lightweight convenience and storage practicality, making it ideal for contemporary lifestyles.
This design moves beyond conventional packaging, serving as a brand object that embodies the identity of Korean food culture. By blending tradition with innovation, it delivers a tangible sense of Korean heritage to both domestic and international consumers.
CJ YagGochujang was launched in Korea in 2013.
