Digital Photo Frame Design Project

SH2J collaborated with Japanese telecommunications company Au on a digital photo frame design project.

This product was developed as a communication device designed to help families share warm moments easily and naturally. To focus on the device’s core function—photo viewing—a minimal and simple design approach was adopted, eliminating all unnecessary elements.

The clean front layout, centered around the display with well-balanced proportions, allows users to immerse themselves in the images without visual distractions. Its matte surface texture and neutral-toned color palette blend seamlessly into any interior setting, creating a warm and calming atmosphere.

The control system features an intuitive touch interface, designed to be easy to use for a wide range of users, including the elderly. Its slim profile and lightweight construction enhance spatial efficiency and portability. Though a digital device, this project embraced a warm and emotional design approach, offering a strong example of how technology and emotional connection can be harmoniously integrated to deliver meaningful value to users.

The DPF13 was proposed to Au in Japan in 2013.
